From Beth’s Desk
Days and days and days go by with the summer sun beating down, not a drop of rain in sight, as farmers and those seeking just a bit of a cool breeze against the heat pray for rain, just a bit of rain. The rains come and those so earnestly planning out-door activities for the children of VBS pray for sunshine, just from 6-8 p.m., Lord, if you could.
I wonder, as our prayers overlap and conflict, as farmers beg the Lord above for rain while earnest planners seek a brief respite, that God doesn’t shake the divine head in wonder at our sheer confoundedness.
Maybe we’re better to leave the rain-making to God and work with and around it the best we can. And maybe, just maybe, we can let the enormity of the reality that we do not control the weather settle into us and be just a little bit grateful – that we are not – not ever – in charge.
A good thing, I’m thinking.
May the God of every raindrop bless you beyond measure,
